Worker's Rights
Although we have rights as workers today, companies don’t always follow the law. Workers are still dying and getting hurt on the job because their employer is violating work place safety laws, and workers are still denied jobs and promotions because of some form of discrimination. In addition, workers are getting fired for standing up for their rights, like forming a union at their work or talking to a union organizer. We enter the workforce after high school not knowing what our basic rights are at work, and that is not good. It is up to us, the working class, to know what our rights are and to enforce these rights at our job.
Despite all the laws passed to favor workers in America, there is no law granting working families the right to dignity and respect at work. That is where unions come in. Unions not only enforce the laws to protect workers in their contracts with employers, they also institute other terms and conditions in the contract to compensate workers for the lack of dignity and respect they receive from their employer.
